WHO CAN SWIM WITH BABY?

One parent always accompanies their child during their Bubble Babies lesson.

If both parents want to share the experience,

you are welcome to have one parent in the pool one week and the other parent, the following week.

If neither parent can make it one week,

family members or friends are welcome to bring baby instead.

Family and friends are also welcome to watch you during your Bubble Babies class.

Please ask permission before taking photographs/video.

Please no eating, drinking, shoes or socks on poolside.

WHAT DOES BABY WEAR?

Firstly baby needs a snug fitting disposable swimming nappy

(that forms a good seal around the legs and waist):

and then a non-disposable cloth swimming nappy to put over the top:

Make sure that you bring some spare disposable nappies with you so that you can remove a soiled one immediately and join back in the lesson as soon as you can!

WHEN SHOULD I GET TO MY LESSON?

Aim to arrive about 10 minutes before the class begins.

Please wait until the teacher is present and your lesson is scheduled to start

before you get into the water.

Always check your mobile before setting out for your lesson in case of last minute messages.

WHAT ARE THE CHANGING FACILITIES LIKE?

There are four small basic open plan changing rooms:  two male and two female,
with
toilets and changing beds (although you may prefer to take your own changing mat and change baby on the floor).

There are pegs to hang clothes on.
(Please keep the changing room benches clear of your belongings so that other people can use them while you are swimming).

Do not leave valuables unattended.

Please remove your shoes and socks before entering the changing rooms.

Please put used nappies in the bin bags attached to the side of the white nappy bins.

(Do not put used nappies in the general rubbish bins, thank you).

Please no eating or drinking in the changing rooms.

WHAT IS THE POOL LIKE?

WARM! 35 degrees!
It is 1.05 metres deep and is the same depth throughout.
Shallow enough for you to stand or swim
, whatever you prefer!

DO I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SWIM?

No you, the parent, definitely do not need to be able to swim!

We welcome swimmers and non swimmers alike.

The most important thing is that you are giving your baby the invaluable opportunity of becoming a multi-skilled, water-confident, safety-conscious swimmer with a lifelong love, respect and enjoyment of the water.

If you are not overly confident in the water, you will gain more and more assurance with each lesson and in fact Bubble Babies classes have instilled many previously water phobic parents with a newfound water confidence where both parent and baby have gone on to become enthusiastic swimming partners!

WHEN SHOULD I FEED MY BABY BEFORE LESSONS?

Ideally, try to leave at least one hour between baby’s last feed and their swimming class.
WHAT IF MY BABY HAS JUST HAD A VACCINATION?

Babies sometimes experience side effects after a vaccination.
These are generally quite mild and should not stop you taking your baby swimming.
However, babies who are feverish or irritable in the days or weeks after a vaccination may not feel up to swimming for a few days, so you may prefer to wait.
SHOULD WE SWIM IF......?

Never bring your baby swimming if they have any form of
sickness, ear, eye, nose, t
hroat or chest infection, diarrhoea,
chicken pox or measles.

Wait until symptoms have completely cleared for at least 48 hours, or the doctor has given the all clear, before returning.

I'M FEELING A LITTLE ANXIOUS?

Remember, the most important aspect of Bubble Babies swimming lessons is to

have fun and relax.

Always respect your baby’s unique individual pace and take time to give

plenty of love, praise and trust.

Exciting lessons, warm water, friendly groups and an experienced and understanding teacher will lead to your swimming class becoming a

highlight of your week!

Relax and enjoy!
